Do you have to watch Bridgerton to watch Queen Charlotte?

With the release of Queen Charlotte on Netflix, fans wonder whether they should stream the show’s predecessor Bridgerton first, or if it’s fine to watch the spinoff beforehand.

As you know, Queen Charlotte serves as a prequel to the events of Bridgerton, and watching this 2023 release may aid in helping you understand the decisions and behavior of some of your favorite characters, such as Lady Danbury, Lady Violet, and, most importantly, King George.

Even so, does the order truly matter in the grand scheme of the popular Netflix original series? Here’s what we think!

Truthfully, we think the order in which you watch either Queen Charlotte or Bridgerton will not affect your overall experience, as both shows are incredibly well-done and complement one another exceptionally. What’s more, both shows have a great deal of lore that we think is important to understand before heading into either show.

For example, if you watch Bridgerton before you watch Queen Charlotte, you would understand the importance of socialites like Lady Danbury and the Queen, but probably wouldn’t know what exactly King George’s condition is nor why he’s such a mysterious figure when we are first introduced to him. On that note, if you would rather know a little more about King George first, then watching the newly released Netflix title is the way to go.

On the flip side, should you choose to opt for the 2023 release first, you would be knowledgeable on the past of Queen Charlotte and how King George’s condition shaped her into the person she is but you wouldn’t understand how Bridgerton‘s success made Queen Charlotte a must-watch for lovers of the show. To that end, you’re probably better off watching Bridgerton first.

All in all, how you watch the Bridgerton installments is solely up to your preferences. If you prefer seeing the future before the past, Bridgerton should come first. If you prefer understanding the past to further understand the future, then Queen Charlotte is absolutely first on your binge-watch list.

Either way, both shows are now streaming on Netflix and are definitely worth the watch!
