There’s been no confirmation of Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo’s split and just denials from Jessica’s rep, but the rumors seem to have enough weight to be true. We’re still waiting to see if Tony is Jessica’s date to her sister’s wedding this weekend. If anyone other than the magazine who bid the highest will be able to score photos of the guests we’ll probably know soon, otherwise they’ll try to hide the breakup for as long as possible.
The Dallas News reports that “two people close to Tony and Jess” attest that they’re over, while Tony himself said “I’m not talking about Jessica” when asked on Wednesday.
There are more and very believable insider reports from The Chicago Sun Times, which says “they’re definitely over,” and gives a bunch of reasons why Tony split. Jessica’s effusive “my future husband” Glamour interview was a definite reason Tony left, along with the way that her father, Joe, tried to interfere with Tony’s career:
Yet, the Romo pal — part of the posse that hung with the pro-baller during his hard partying in Chicago last weekend (including his off-key singing at Wrigley Field during the seventh inning stretch) — quotes Romo as saying he and Simpson ”are definitely over.” The Cowboy apparently explained he had ”really had it” with being a constant target of the paparazzi and the celebrity press in general, and feels this particular romantic relationship was distracting him from his football career.
In addition, Romo’s friend said the talented QB has been put off by the intrusive style of Joe Simpson, who’s been ”not only telling Jessica every move to make, but now has begun to offer unsolicited advice to Tony on his career, endorsement opportunities and things that have nothing to do with him dating Jessica.”
Furthermore, Romo reportedly was very upset by Simpson’s interview in Glamour magazine where she referred to Romo as her ”future husband” and other on-the-record interviews she has given, saying she wants Romo to be the father to her children.

Meanwhile OK! Magazine, with spin that’s probably straight from Jessica’s down in the dumps camp, says that she gave Tony an “ultimatum” that if he doesn’t show at her sister’s wedding this week it’s over. I guess that means they’re really through and this is Jessica’s meek attempt to save face.
You know, Romo probably might have overlooked Jessica’s meddling dad and if only she wouldn’t have blabbed so much to the press about him. That’s the lamest move you can make as a woman. In most cases it’s just telling your friends too much so that it ultimately gets back to the guy secondhand. In this instance Romo can read exactly what Jessica said and it’s way too revealing and gushy.
Jezebel notes that Jessica was drinking Chardonnay when she gave that interview. Not the wisest move, and considering all the stories that are coming out about her drinking too much, she should probably watch herself and not seek solace in a bottle.
